How to Overcome Camera Shyness and Enjoy Your Photoshoot
Published: Mon, 06/02/25
Hey there!
Let’s be real—having your photo taken can feel a little nerve-wracking, right? If you’ve ever found yourself dreading a camera lens or worrying about how you’ll look in photos, you are so not alone. Even as someone who lives behind the lens, I know how easy it is to feel awkward or self-conscious when the focus is on you. Today, I want to share some of my favorite ways to overcome camera shyness so you can actually enjoy your photoshoot—and maybe even have a little fun along the way!
What's Coming Up?
This season, I’m focusing on helping folks just like you feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Whether you’re updating your headshots, need fresh images for your business, or simply want to capture your true self, my remote sessions are designed to put you at ease. You can learn more about how remote photography works and what to expect by visiting my website.
Pro Tip of the Month: Ditch the Camera Jitters
Here are a few tips I share with every client to help turn those nerves into genuine smiles:
Get Comfortable Before the Shoot: Wear something that makes you feel good and move around a bit to shake off the jitters. It’s amazing what a favorite shirt or a silly song can do for your mood!
Practice Makes Progress:
Try taking a few selfies or short videos at home. Notice what angles or expressions you like best—it’s a great way to build confidence before your session.
Focus on Connection, Not Perfection: The best photos are the ones that capture your real personality. Chat with me during your session, bring a prop you love, or invite a friend to join in for a few shots. It’s about capturing who you are, not just how you look.
Trust the Process: My job is to guide you every step of the way. I’ll help with posing, lighting, and even those genuine laughs that make photos shine. All you need to do is show up as yourself!

Fun Facts for June!
June is National Smile Month! What better time to capture those genuine grins and happy moments?
The longest day of the year falls in June. Summer Solstice means more daylight for outdoor adventures (and golden hour portraits!).
June's birthstone is the pearl, symbolizing purity and new beginnings—perfect inspiration for fresh photoshoots!
Fun Photography Fact: The word "photography" comes from Greek roots meaning "drawing with light." Every time you step in front of the camera, you’re literally painting your story with light!
Thank you for being part of this amazing community. Your courage to step in front of the camera inspires me every day, and I’m grateful to have the chance to help you capture your story.
Brightest Blessings to you and yours!
