Hey there!
Raise your hand if your heart skips a beat (not in a good way) at the thought of being in front of the camera. 🙋♂️ You’re not alone! Whether you’re getting ready for an updated headshot, a personal branding session, or just want to finally see yourself in a new light, that nervous "what do I do with my face?!" feeling is real. I’ve had more than a few conversations with folks who are camera shy—and guess what? Most people start out that way. Even yours truly tends to find the weirdest possible way to stand once I see the lens pointed at me.
What’s Coming Up?
With fall on the horizon and so many of you rethinking personal or business images, there’s no better time to tackle camera shyness head-on! If you’re eyeing a new remote session for portraits or headshots, know that I’ve designed the whole experience to help you feel good, not just look good. My goal? More real connection and less "deer in headlights.”
Pro Tip of the Month: Building Camera Confidence
- Stop aiming for perfect—aim for real. Perfection is a moving target. Show up as your real self (outfit, hair, mood and all), and we’ll create images you recognize and love.
- Break the ice with silly warm-ups. Before a session, I’ll often ask folks to make the goofiest face they can for the camera. The results are guaranteed giggles, and suddenly the pressure is gone. Try it in your mirror before your shoot!
- Hands need a job? Bring something meaningful—a mug, your favorite notebook, a cozy scarf, or even your pet! Having a prop breaks up nerves and makes those poses feel natural.
- Breathe, pause, repeat. There’s absolutely no rush in my sessions. If you need a minute to shake out the jitters or just ground yourself, we’ll take a deep breath and keep it playful. You drive the pace.
- Focus on connection, not performance. Whether you're updating your LinkedIn, rebranding, or celebrating a milestone, it’s about capturing the moment you’re living—not performing for an audience. Shifting your mindset makes all the difference.
